Car supplier and tire manufacturer Continental resumed production in Russia late last week, Germany’s FrankfurterAllgemeine Zeitung reported, citing representatives of the company.
“The current situation is extremely difficult for international companies such as Continental that operate production facilities in Russia. Our employees and managers in Russia face serious criminal consequences if we refuse to meet local demand,” the group said.
Production has been suspended and is now “temporarily” restarting. Admittedly, the factory workload will be extremely low, because Conti in in this case “it does not aim to make a profit”, rather it is an indication of its activities in a tire factory in Kaluga. At the same time, the manufacturer still condemns the Russian special operation in Ukraine and supports sanctions, the newspaper writes.
Conti also has sales offices in Moscow and is involved in a joint venture in Chistopol, near Kazan, which assembles tachographs for commercial vehicles. In total, the group employs about 1,300 people in Russia, mainly at the factory in Kaluga.
