Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in 2022 were 58.8% lower than last year, reaching just 687,370 units, according to the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee.
Since February 2022, the market has started to change rapidly: Europeans and Japanese, who have sold their leftovers, are leaving the market and making room for Chinese brands.
If we abstract from objective reasons and only speak about passenger cars (excluding commercial vehicles), sales of the following brands for the whole of 2022 turned out to be minimal:
- Jaguar – 124 pcs. (-76% compared to sales in 2021)
- Cadillac – 162 pcs. (-93%)
- Lifan – 166 pcs. (-73%)
- Chevrolet — 266 pcs. (-75%)
- Honda – 368 pcs. (-72%)
- GAC – 437 pcs. (-53%)
- Opel – 694 pcs. (-66%)
- MINI – 745 pcs. (-71%)
- Jeep – 756 pcs. (-53%)
- Infinity – 958 pcs. (-53%)
The Russian brand Evolute (452 units) could also be included in the list, but the modest numbers are only explained by the fact that the first cars went on sale only in October 2022.
In terms of sales dynamics, the worst things for brands are:
- Cadillac – 162 pcs. (-93%)
- Lexus – 1857 pcs. (-90%)
- Suzuki – 1682 pcs. (-82%)
- Land Rover – 1145 pcs. (-82%)
- Volvo – 1707 pcs. (-81%)
- Toyota – 19,645 units. (-80%)
- Skoda – 18,299 units (-80%)
- BMW – 9 423 units. (-80%)
- Mercedes Benz – 9595 pcs. (-78%)
- Audi – 3512 pcs. (-75%)
It is likely that by the end of 2023 many of the listed brands will leave the list altogether, giving way to old and new brands from the Middle Kingdom and the latest domestic brands.
