The new law, which will enter into force on March 1, 2023, determines the conditions under which the traffic police officer has the right to demand an examination from the driver. The permitted amount of ppm of alcohol in the air when blowing into a straw has also been laid down.

The fact of alcohol consumption is confirmed by “the presence of absolute ethyl alcohol in a concentration exceeding the possible total error of measurement, which is 0.16 milligrams per liter of exhaled air,” the document said.

This amount corresponds to 0.35 ppm in the blood. For the average 80 kg man, this is one serving of alcohol, drunk one hour before getting behind the wheel. Translated into types of alcohol, then this is 50 g of vodka, or 200 g of dry wine, or 500 g of beer.

But even if the result of the check did not show the presence of alcohol in the blood, but the inspector has doubts about the condition of the driver, he has every right to send him for a medical examination.
