Hella introduced the FlatLight technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show CES in Las Vegas. New lighting technology makes LED luminaires flat, flexible and economical.
The FlatLight technology requires only 5 millimeters of installation space and daytime running lights, indicators and position lights can be compactly housed in one light module. In comparison, conventional daytime running lights require a depth of at least 40 mm when installed.
The miniaturization of the light module also ensures a clear light signature – with a line thickness of 10 mm.
FlatLight is based on so-called micro-optics. These are extremely miniature optics measuring less than 15 microns, which is much smaller than a grain of salt.
Thanks to the new technology, both the weight of the light module and the space required for installation can be reduced.
Hella will supply its products to an international premium manufacturer, which will start installing ultra-thin optics on its vehicles from mid-2025. His name is not disclosed, but insiders believe that the Audi brand will be the “lucky one”. Incidentally, the manufacturer has already placed an order for a large batch of ultra-thin rear lights.
