Despite the sanctions and the forced termination of cooperation with Daimler Truck AG, Kama Automobile Plant continues to manufacture Mercedes-Benz cab tractors. Now they are being assembled from the warehouse stock of components, which will last until the end of the second quarter.

KAMAZ reported that they will make 346 K4 main tractors with a licensed Mercedes-Benz Axor cab of the 2001 model and 77 K5 family tractors with a Mercedes-Benz Actros BM963 cab of the 2012 model in April-June. This means that they will assemble a total of 423 trucks with German-made cabins.

In July, K4 will go completely into history and K5 production will be suspended for the period of full import replacement of parts. Production of trucks from the K5 line is expected to resume in early 2023, but in a “Russified” form. The in-line six-cylinder turbo diesel KAMAZ-Liebherr P6 for this machine is also slated to be fully localized, Rostec head Sergey Chemezov said last week (remember, the state-owned company owns KAMAZ).

Due to sanctions, KAMAZ can no longer import parts from the European Union, which were widely used in its new line of models. In addition, the German Daimler Truck AG, co-owner of KAMAZ, suspended cooperation on all projects at the beginning of March.

In 2021, KAMAZ sold 7,994 main tractors of the K4 and K5 generations. In the first months of 2022, sales of “trunks” of the new lineup amounted to 1,621 units.
