It became clear how dealers now form prices

While prices have traditionally increased by around 3-4% due to inflation since January 1, there has been a lull so far this year. Admittedly, at the end of 2022, a number of brands increased prices by 7%.

A lot has changed in the past year, also in the automotive sector. Brands from unfriendly countries have left Russia, the prices for those models that are now presented in car dealerships are such that there is no excitement among buyers.

There are many cars from China, but they are mostly used with a cunning strategy: instead of price lists, discounts are updated, increasing or decreasing, regulating cost and marginality. The price lists themselves have remained unchanged since December, even though the yuan has been growing against the ruble for two months in a row.

Avtostat noted that the practice of controlling the size of the discount is not new – that’s how Korean brands used to work. This makes it possible to respond more quickly to changes in supply and demand.

At the same time, dealers and analysts continue to expect price increases for 2023 cars. The final price depends on the exchange rate, logistics costs and the requirements of the Russian government for customs clearance of imported cars. Cars assembled in Russia will increase in price within the bounds of inflation – by at least 5-10%, and prices for parallel imports will change depending on market saturation.
