In early 2023, the South Korean Fair Trade Commission fined Tesla $2.2 million for misinformation in an advertisement.
The department noted that the distance an electric car travels without recharging, indicated in promotional materials, is only achievable at comfortable temperatures and in urban conditions.
We’re talking about an ad from 2019, which stated that Tesla (without specifying the model) “can run at least several hundred miles” without charging.
The Fair Trade Commission has found that under conditions that are far from ideal, mileage can be reduced by more than 50% of its advertised value, which is a gross exaggeration.
In addition, it turned out that the speed of the brand’s charging equipment is also indicated by the company for optimal conditions – and that can hardly be true.
Note that Tesla held 43% of the electric vehicle market in Korea in 2020.
