Nissan Leaf has been produced since 2010 and today costs from 450 thousand rubles. When it was new, the manufacturer promised that the electricity in its battery would be enough for a 109 horsepower motor for 175 km. After 10–13 years of use, this is no longer true.

Journalists Top speed decided to experiment and see what the 2012 Nissan Leaf can do with 115,000 km (71,500 miles).

The test showed that a full charge of the car under ideal conditions (neither cold nor hot) is sufficient for up to 106 km. In real conditions, the power reserve turned out to be even smaller.

During the tests, it was a light frost of 3 degrees outside and the car’s electronics promised that a full charge under such conditions would be enough for 67 km. This is enough for most people to travel to work or to the store and back. But with the start of the test, a rapid recalculation began.

At a maximum speed of 159 km/h, after the car had driven 4.9 km, the computer indicated that the charge would last 39 km. After covering just 7.4 km, the electric car revised its promises and said it can handle another 4.8 km. After another 600 meters, the batteries had 1 mile left, or 1.61 km. But everything turned out not so bad.

Instead of stopping, the Leaf gradually began to lose speed – from 156 km / h to 153, 151 km / h and so on. At the same time, the journalists decided to turn on some functions in order to more quickly complete the energy supply in the battery – emergency exit, wipers, headlights, heated seats and many others.

After a total of 27 km, the car was still traveling at a speed of 150 km/h. After about 20 miles (32.6 km) the message “Engine power is limited” appeared and the car began to slow down rapidly.

As a result, the battery charge of the 10-year-old Nissan Leaf at full speed was enough to drive 34.7 km. For a fun comparison, a Bugatti engine at top speed can empty a full tank of fuel in about 12 minutes.

Incidentally, a very good parameter to determine the capabilities of electric vehicles is how many kilometers a full charge lasts when you drive at maximum speed.
