Fogging up headlights is dangerous because it distorts the light distribution, and this disturbs both the driver (the illumination of the road decreases) and other road users – it dazzles. Driving specialist Alexey Revin toldwhat to do if this happens to your car.

If the headlight is basically usable, then there is nothing to be afraid of. Fog will disappear as quickly as it appeared, because car optics have a ventilation system: a tube or air vents with small filters.

So that the optics do not sweat, withkeep track of the health and cleanliness of the ventilators. They are usually sealed with a colored non-woven material to prevent dust from entering the housing.

Fogging can be caused by clogged filters or incorrect removal/installation of the headlight. If you do not seal the joints yourself, you must contact the service.

Also, pressure washing the engine compartment can contribute to fogging if the “breathing hoods” are torn off by a jet of water. Then you will have to tinker with the headlight or replace it altogether.
