On January 3, 1926, the American concern General Motors introduced the first Pontiac car, which was called “Six”. The car had a six-cylinder engine. The development was presented to the general public at the New York Auto Show.

The name Pontiac comes from the name of the Indian leader who fought with the British settlers in what are now the states of Illinois and Ohio in 1763-1766.

The brand received a resounding success thanks to the Pontiac Silver Streak model. The demand was so great that production capacity had to be increased.

In 1967 two more well-known models appeared: GTO and Firebird. At the end of the 1970s, GM decides to produce compact and economical cars. This is how the Fiero, Bonneville and Sunfire models appeared.

Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in the late 2000s. On April 24, 2009, the last car left the assembly line: the G6 sedan. Pontiac ceased to exist on November 1, 2010, shortly before its 85th birthday.
