The British are developing technology to capture tire particles

British company Tire Collective has developed a device that is placed behind each wheel of a car and is designed to collect most rubber dust.

At present, a kind of “bag” can absorb about 60% of the particles emitted into the air. Rubber particles, charged by friction on the road, are captured in a cartridge by means of electrostatic copper plates. During maintenance, they are removed from there and can be used again.

Industrial production of such a device is expected to start in a year. To optimize this, the company’s founders work together with tire and car manufacturers.

With an increase in relatively heavy electric vehicles in Europe, exhaust emissions will decrease, but tire wear is expected to increase due to the weight of the battery and the higher starting torque compared to internal combustion engines. And with that, the number of microparticles emitted into the environment will also increase. Eco-activists aren’t too concerned about that yet, but as the screws are tightened, this question will pop up sooner or later.
