It happened – ask your neighbor to “light up” the battery with wires, but he refuses you?
Expert “Behind the wheel” Maxim Kolodochkin says that it’s not the neighbor’s greed – he just fears for his car. And he has at least two reasons for this:
- Modern cars are much more complex devices than those of 30-40 years ago. There are plenty of stories about how standard electronics failed due to power surges in a donor car. To what extent they apply in each specific case is a difficult question. But the neighbor doesn’t want to take any chances.
- You say to your neighbour: you can safely light a cigarette if you disconnect the on-board terminal from the donor car. A neighbor can also refuse in this case: he has heard that many modern cars do not tolerate even a short disconnection of the battery in the field.
