AVTOVAZ recently presented a prototype of the electric car Lada e-Largus, the Chinese are going to sell electric cars in Russia – from budget to premium brands, the electric Moskvich is about to go on sale, the first cars of the Russian brand Evolute have found their buyers, etc.
As for buyers, they are not very interested in electric cars. In fact, this can be judged by the fact that even materials about such machines are not very liked to read on our website. So what’s the deal?
Expert opinion
Maxim Kadakoveditor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the wheel”
— For 98% of motorists, an electric car is generally an incomprehensible subject, because most families only have one car and change it very rarely.
When it comes to electric vehicles, I’m immediately bombarded with questions: how am I going to drive in the winter; How do I charge it? replace the battery when the time comes; resell and for how much; how do i drive this car to the sea. With this car you will not go to the sea, because in our current circumstances an electric car is a “close or medium combat” car: travel between districts, head for a neighboring region and not anymore.
Moreover, the main reason for the low interest in electric cars is not even the power reserve, nor the lack of charging points, but the fact that an electric car is 25-40% more expensive than a comparable petrol car. This is what holds back most buyers. Because if we got Vesta petrol and Vesta electric (conditionally) at the same price, many would think whether to buy the latter? For example, there is a private house, it is convenient to charge, I go to the sea by train or fly by plane, I mainly move around my village and to the city, in which case I’ll get there, and the service is cheaper. Why not buy, and even if there is a subsidy, and now it is a maximum of 925 thousand rubles.
And don’t forget the other 2%, who are always willing to consider an electric car. Yes, there are few of them, but they buy second-hand Nissan Leaf for 1.2-2 million rubles. So there is a demand for it cars.
There are also companies that want to join the green agenda, there are commercial companies for which electric cars are useful.
Of course, not all of us will switch to electric cars tomorrow. With our distances, with our temperatures, with relatively cheap fuel, with a large supply of gas, we can only run on gas for another 50 or 70 years.
Therefore, I don’t see an explosive demand for electric vehicles in the near future, but there will always be a moderate one. At the same time, one should not forget that such cars are becoming more modern and interesting every year.
