In 2022, sales of new cars in Russia will reach 800 thousand, said Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Deputy Prime Minister, in an interview with TASS.
“Production volumes will exceed the 600,000 car limit. New car sales are expected to be around 800,000 units,” Manturov said.
According to him, the automobile industry in Russia suffered more than any other industry, but by the end of the year the situation began to stabilize.
After the start of the CBO in 2022, most foreign auto companies stopped production at factories in Russia, and some announced the sale of assets and withdrawal from the market.
In particular, Renault sold its stake in AvtoVAZ to the state-owned Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI and its Moscow plant to the Moscow government. Nissan sold its assets to the same NAMI and Mercedes-Benz to the Avtodom dealer holding. Volkswagen left the production site in Nizhny Novgorod and Mazda sold its share of the plant in Vladivostok to Sollers. Toyota, St. announced the cessation of automobile production at a plant in St. Petersburg.
Previously, the analytical agency Avtostat calculated the average price of a used car grew up 37% from December 2021 to December 2022.
