Not only the number, but also the amount of insurance payments for theft is growing. Last year the average payment was 2 million rubles, this year it is already 3 million, an increase of almost 50%.
First of all, this is due to a sharp rise in prices for cars and spare parts for them, AlfaStrakhovanie experts note, who compiled an assessment based on the analysis of requests from owners of comprehensive insurance policies.
The Hyundai brand is in first place in the top 10 most stolen cars in 2022. For the second year in a row, the “Koreans” lead the way in terms of theft. Car thieves are particularly interested in Santa Fe models (14%). The best hijack brands also include:
- Crete (5%)
- Stockade (5%)
- Sonata (4%)
- Tucson (4%)
- Solaris (3%).
Also this year, Kia Sorento (5%) and Kia Sportage (4%) appear in the top ten.
The Japanese Mitsubishi Outlander (6%), Lexus RX (4%), Toyota Camry (4%) are still often stolen. A few years ago, the Japanese auto industry took first place on the podium.
What is changing
Insurers see no “surprises” in these statistics. Korean SUVs are loved not only by Russian car owners, but also by privateers, and the Hyundai Santa Fe is one of the most popular crossovers today.
The “surprise” is different – from year to year insurers are expected to record a decrease in thefts, but the trend is gradually turning in the opposite direction.
As of October 2022, the number of thefts reported to AlfaStrakhovanie has increased by a quarter compared to previous months. Most “popular” with hijackers there are mid-range cars. At the same time, the rise in the price of spare parts will not continue to change the picture of theft for the better, experts say.
