The nickname “penny” in the army, of course, did not get the VAZ-2101 car, but the infantry fighting vehicle – BMP-1. It’s about her.
This is a legendary car that has managed to fight a lot true. The history of its creation is interesting. In the 1960s, it was created in the event of nuclear war so that infantrymen could quickly overcome radiation contamination zones without compromising combat capability and keeping up with tanks.
Initially, the combat vehicle was equipped with a 73-mm gun “Thunder”. During the fighting in Afghanistan (December 25, 1979 – February 15, 1989), this weapon, which is essentially a grenade launcher, turned out to be ineffective.
As a result, the BMP-2 was developed (of course, in the army it was nicknamed “two”), which was equipped with a powerful 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon. “Kopecks” went to the parking lot, to wait for the start of the Third World War.
BMP-1:00 “Basurmanin”
But they were used before – they are sent to the zone of a special military operation. The machines are of course extensively adapted for this.
BMP-1s receive a 30 mm 2A72 automatic cannon, a combined sight that “sees” both day and night, an armament stabilizer and the Metis anti-tank system.
The result was the same BMP-1AM “Basurmanin”, which you probably heard about on the news.
The Basurmanin perfectly copes with its tasks, because it is opposed from the Ukrainian side by non-modernized BMP-1 and BMP-2, as well as wheeled armored cars that cannot withstand hits from a 30-mm gun.
