For MCD-5, a unique 12 km long tunnel is being designed that will pass under the center of Moscow. It goes underground in the Rizhskaya area and exits the Paveletsky station area.
But before a final decision is made on the construction of this facility, it will take a lot of time, Kommersant deputy mayor Maxim Liksutov said in an interview.
Deputy Mayor of Moscow Maxim Liksutov:
– Now the task is to make a preliminary design and understand how, in principle, it is possible to pass this highway underground. This is done by the Russian Railways together with the design institutes of the Moscow government.
A unique project, such units all over the world or maybe not at all. We set a number of conditions in the regulations for designers.
For example, to run the tunnel in the central part of the city without affecting the existing infrastructure and existing buildings.
The tunnel must be integrated with existing metro stations, otherwise there is no point in making it.
It is necessary to understand the cost, efficiency and the possibility of passing the object in densely built-up conditions in the central part of the city.
Only after determining the cost of the project, it will be possible to go to the Moscow government with such a proposal together with the Russian Railways.
The problem is that if there is no tunnel, then there will be no MCD-5, because otherwise it will not be possible to connect the Yaroslavl and Paveletsky directions. Then, to speed up traffic, all that remains is to improve traffic on each ray individually and change trains for new ones, Liksutov noted.
