Maruti Suzuki is preparing the Gurgaon plant for production of the 5-door Jimny starting in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024. A 3-door version of this Suzuki SUV has been produced here since January 2021 and exported to left-hand drive and right-hand drive markets such as Africa and the Middle East.
The assembly line is now being converted to produce a five-door Jimny for India.
The Jimny remains a chassis SUV and will therefore be built on an independent assembly line at this plant, which also builds the XL6, Ertiga and Eeco models.
The Jimny will be powered by Suzuki’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 102 horsepower. This is an upgraded engine and features Suzuki’s DualJet technology for lower fuel consumption and emissions. The car is paired with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
The length of the five-door Jimny will not exceed four meters, and the ground clearance will probably be 210 mm, like its three-door version.
The five-door Jimny will be presented at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023 in January and will be positioned as a family lifestyle vehicle.
