Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a plan to adapt its global electric powertrain production network, including the assembly of batteries, electric drives and axles, from 2024.
In June, company management and employee representatives reached an agreement to switch European car factories to electric vehicles, with Sindelfingen as the hub for premium cars on the AMG.EA platform, and Bremen and Hungary’s Kecskemét for mainstream luxury models. The capacities in Rastatt and Kecskemét will be transferred to entry-level cars.
“All locations will be involved in the implementation of this plan,” said production chief Jörg Burzer, adding that Mercedes-Benz aims to switch to sales of electric vehicles only by 2030, “if market conditions allow.”
