Car thieves have mastered a new way of theft – at night “on a suitcase”

One of the most unusual ways to steal cars was theft “for a trunk”.

This method works by amplifying the signal from the keyless entry system so that the car “thinks” the remote is in the car when it is actually home.

The thief, having found his “victim”, comes at night with special equipment and walks around the owner’s house in search of a signal from the key. We are, of course, talking about a private house. This is exactly what happened in Germany. The owner decided to share the recordings from the cameras on one of the social networks.

What you see in the video is not a ghost at all, but a hooded man, walking near the house with a long cable in his hands, which serves as an antenna. He has a bag around his neck (“suitcase”). It’s a signal trap. The second thief is already waiting at the victim’s car.

If the signal of the key can be found, the thieves immediately leave in a stolen car. That was not possible in this case, and if it weren’t for the cameras, the owner probably wouldn’t have suspected anything.

Is it possible to protect yourself from theft “on a suitcase”? Yes, the police say, just wrap the key in aluminum foil. It limits the signal by creating a “Faraday cage” for the key. It’s simple and mostly effective.

The police also advise against leaving the car keys at the front door of the house. Most people do this and thieves take advantage of it.
