In winter, diesel cars need to be warmed up at idle until the car’s heating radiator starts working and supplying warm air to the passenger compartment. Sergei Shabunin, the main buyer of the Veshnyaki Avto technical center, told socialbites.ca about this.
A diesel engine is considered hot when the “stove” starts – I recommend always determining it on this basis. Engines reach operating temperature at 50-60 degrees. On some machines, the speed initially rises to the so-called warm-up mode, and then decreases, for example, from 1100-1200 rpm to 700-800 rpm, ”sabunin socialbites.ca.
The automobile expert reminded that diesel engines take longer to heat up than gasoline engines due to their design features. At the same time, the mechanic recommends that all owners of vehicles with diesel engines install a preheater.
“The design features of these engines are different – the combustion chambers are made differently and the combustion temperature is lower, so diesel engines warm up a little longer. However, almost no one warms up modern diesel engines, because everyone has long installed a preheater like the Webasto. When the driver approaches the vehicle, the engine is already relatively warm due to the cooling system,” explained the expert.
Formerly technical center Shabunin specialist saidWhich cars are better not to be left on the “handbrake” in the cold.
