The plant of the South Korean concern Hyundai in St. Petersburg will remain closed until the end of 2022.
The fate of the car plant is not entirely clear: after the cessation of production, downtime is constantly extended.
In the fall, information appeared that the possibilities of selling the Russian company were being studied.
Auto expert Denis Gavrilov thinks the decision to extend the downtime is quite logical.
“Koreans look at the current alignment of geopolitical forces in the world. So far we see that they are not prone to radical moves like other foreign manufacturers who left Russia and sold their assets. This is not their way. In addition, Hyundai has something to lose: their potential losses are greater than those of Nissan and Toyota, both in terms of investment in Russian assets, and in terms of their market share, and in terms of production capacity, and in terms of suppliers,” explained the expert.
