Does oil consumption increase with speed?
– Grows. Driving at high speed demands a lot of power from the engine: you need high torque and high revs.
High torque can only be provided by a high average effective pressure in the cylinder. And the higher the pressure, the greater the breakthrough of gases through the piston rings, which increases the amount of crankcase gases that carry oil to the intake. Then it enters the cylinder and burns out.
The second reason for the increase in oil consumption during fast driving at high speeds is the higher temperature of the cylinder walls, which leads to dilution of the oil and an increase in its penetration into the combustion chamber, as well as less efficient operation of the oil scraper rings.
