Chery Automobiles Rus was tasked to sell 200,000 cars by 2023, sources told the Drom portal. However, it is still unclear where those sales will come from.
So, according to the publication, only 9935 Chery cars and 4515 Exeed subsidiary brands were sold in the third quarter, and the situation is unlikely to improve much by the end of the year. Recently, a third subsidiary appeared in Russia – Omoda, which will provide opportunities to increase sales, but not by much.
This year Chery will probably not be able to sell more than 50,000 cars, and this is far from the desired 200,000. At the same time, the brand does not have its own production in Russia, the ruble can return to its former values, the authorities threaten to increase waste collection in Russia, and the purchasing power of the population remains at the same level.
What can be done
Achieving the target of 200,000 sales per year is only possible with local assembly. They wanted to establish it in UAZ’s facilities in Ulyanovsk, but the Russian manufacturer was under sanctions, and it became problematic to work with him due to fears of secondary sanctions.
All that remains is Avtotor, and it is quite realistic to put production there, especially since the governor of the Kaliningrad region has already announced that the enterprise will produce cars of three brands, and the media suggested that we can talk about the JAC, Beijing (BAIC) and Chery brands.
According to rumors, cars will be produced in Kaliningrad Chery and Omoda. The Chinese do not want to put Exeed on the Russian conveyor belt yet and Cherie also has the Jetour brand in stock.
