Salt is even used in two cases. To independently make an antifreeze and thaw the frozen liquid in the tank.
To make a saturated salt solution that cannot freeze to -20°C, you have to dissolve almost a whole pack of salt in the washing tank. Of course, an antifreeze made in this way is very cheap. However, after using such a ring, intensive corrosion of the metal parts of the body and aluminum alloy elements will begin.
What is the danger of not freezing because of a saline solution?
First of all, the pump that supplies the windshield washer fluid and the level sensor (if present) will suffer from the influence of salt. Even if the metal parts of these units are made of stainless steel and the influence of salt on them is minimal, the salt mixture will continue to move through the system. Then the corrosion process begins on the chips of the eaves above the windshield. The problem also lies in the ingress of salt water into the hidden cavities of the body.
The harmful solution, after draining from the windshield, enters the air intake box and then penetrates into the heater. In the same box is the wiring and wiper mechanism. For these parts, exposure to salt is also detrimental. Next in the saline’s path are the cavities under the forewings. Together with the soil and the foliage that accumulates there, the salt creates a harmful environment for the spread of corrosion to the fenders and fenders.
That is why we do not recommend the use of such windscreen washer fluid!
At the same time, salt is very effective for defrosting the windshield washer reservoir. However, after the ice has dissolved, the aggressive liquid must be removed quickly.
How to remove aggressive fluid from the windshield washer reservoir?
There is only one way: as soon as the ice dissolves, the brine must be removed as soon as possible. This is best done with a hose with a pear for pumping fuel. The brine must be pumped out through the filler neck of the washer reservoir. Then the tank must be rinsed. To do this, you need to fill it with water 2-3 times and pump it out. For greater efficiency, a little antifreeze can be dissolved in water.
We pump out the saline solution with a pump for pumping petrol or other liquids.
Important! It is strictly forbidden to drain the brine through the windshield washer system. The consequences of this will be very bad for the body and wiring. In extreme cases, you can disconnect the antifreeze supply hose from the tank to the system and drain the salt mixture into a separate container.
In the future, the brine from this container can be drained into the sink at home and cleaned of the sewage system.
Do not pour the solution on the ground. This is how nature is affected.
How do you prevent windshield washer fluid from freezing?
Just look at the weather. If the air temperature drops to zero, you must first drain the remnants of the summer washer and fill the tank to the neck with winter antifreeze. Do not dilute summer fluid with winter fluid. A diluted winter washer freezes much earlier than indicated in the instructions for use. It’s easy to get the proportions wrong here, and you end up with a frozen washer reservoir.
For the same reason, you should not save on antifreeze, diluting it with water during the winter thaw.
