The weather in Central Russia is unpredictable: the city is just covered with snow, and the next day – torrential rain. The latter is the most dangerous due to the subsequent drop in temperature, when everything and everyone gets stuck in the ice.
Auto expert Mikhail Kolodochkin recommends not to rely on chance, but to prepare your car for natural disasters in advance.
First of all, he advises treating the rubber door and trunk seals with silicone grease.
If the door won’t open in the morning, try leaning on it from the outside to break the ice that has formed.
To prevent the windshield wipers from being frozen to the glass in the morning, it is better to lift them the day before. If you did not do this, but you need to go, then in no case try to move them by loading the electric motor. Therefore, we calmly start the engine, arm ourselves with a scraper and mechanically “free” the wipers. Meanwhile, the windshield will also warm up a bit.
If you don’t want the auto-folding side mirrors to fail, it’s best to turn them off until it gets warmer.
And one more important expert tip: leave the car in the parking lot until the next trip, do not be too lazy to open the doors for a few minutes and let out moist warm air. This reduces the chance of frost on the inside of the glass and reduces the chance of frost on the doors.
