51% of the capital’s drivers end up in traffic jams every week and 22% of them daily, according to a survey by car-sharing service Citydrive (available from Za Rulem).

Among the most popular activities in the car while stuck in traffic, drivers mentioned the following:

  • listening to music or radio – 33%
  • browsing social networks – 22%
  • communication in messengers – 21%
  • self-study – 18% (listening to podcasts and audiobooks)
  • singing – 10%.

Among other things, ways to spend time in traffic jams called drivers knitting, applying makeup, shaving and even a session with a psychologist.

What did people see in the traffic jam?

About 5% of the respondents have seen the sunrise in the car and about the same number of drivers have seen dancing passengers. Someone alerted the driver, who did pushups, got out of the car, and someone saw how the driver of a neighboring car played chess with a passenger. One car enthusiast even reported seeing a meteorite fall! Admittedly, nothing else could have been imagined from a long stay in traffic jams.

Motorists consider winter to be the most “corky” season – this option was chosen by 30%, complaining about the New Year’s bustle. Summer (23%) and spring (17%) are next in terms of congestion.

About problems

Drivers consider fatigue and drowsiness (25%), passenger discomfort (23%) and driver physical discomfort (22%) as the main problems during traffic jams.

21% notice that the drivers of neighboring cars become more aggressive at such times and 17% note that the danger of traffic jams is a decrease in concentration and attentiveness behind the wheel of the driver. 30% of motorists indicate that they remain calm in traffic jams and just under 20% even like being stuck in traffic jams.
