Rostec Corporation plans to locate the engine for KAMAZ, which will be installed on trucks of the K5 family, and not only – the engine will also be of interest to other commercial vehicle manufacturers. This was stated by the head of the state-owned enterprise Sergei Chemezov in the Federation Council.
“The localization of a new world-class six-cylinder engine with outputs from 400 to 500 hp deserves special attention. These power units will be in demand not only from KAMAZ, but also from other Russian vehicle manufacturers, as well as agricultural machinery manufacturers,” TASS cites Chemezov.
By 2023, KAMAZ plans to produce fully localized K5 trucks, which, among other things, require a modern engine made without the participation of foreign companies.
“Although they were originally developed and made together with our foreign partners, we will have almost full import replacement by 2023 and cars will be assembled from our Russian components by 2023,” said the head of Rostec.
The first K5 generation localized machines will roll off the assembly line in small quantities, but production volumes will gradually increase.
