The initiative comes from the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.
They believe that the current fine of 800 rubles for the lack of an OSAGO policy is significantly less than the cost of insurance, and therefore do not encourage car owners to purchase insurance.
If a traffic police inspector stops a driver without a CMTPL, the fine should be 5,000 rubles, according to the parliamentarians. If the policy is simply not with you, then 3 thousand (now – 500 rubles).
The authors of the initiative draw attention to the fact that the amount of fines for this offense has not been revised since 2013, when the rates for “car citizenship” were different.
