This is a Typhoon-K MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) class car, which has maximum protection against mine explosions and ambush attacks when the fire is literally pointless.
The “K” in the name of the car explains what vehicle the armored car was based on – KAMAZ-63968 (For example, Typhoon-U was created on the basis of Ural-63099).
This class of vehicles is ideal for transporting fighters on the front line and in the front line. They can carry this or that weapon. The bodies are equipped with loopholes, there is a round video surveillance system, special anti-mining seats and much more.
“High efficiency in combat conditions is demonstrated by protected Typhoon-K vehicles and samples of weapons and military equipment made on their chassis. For example, the use of Lens-protected ambulances during a special military operation, which are designed to evacuate the wounded from the battlefield under enemy fire, made it possible to save a large number of soldiers and officers,” Krasnaya Zvezda quotes the words of the Supreme Commander of the Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov.
Typhoon-K is a huge 24-ton armored car that easily overcomes off-road and can accelerate to 110 km/h. In particular, with its help, the rapid transfer of troops without loss of personnel is carried out and, as noted by Oleg Salyukov, the safe evacuation of fighters.
The armor of this vehicle is resistant to the impact of 14.5 mm caliber shells, as well as armor-piercing bullets of the B-32 type. The glass can withstand several hits from a Vladimirov heavy machine gun (the same caliber 14.5).
The car’s tires are also bulletproof and equipped with a powerful air pump system – even when flat, they stay inflated. In addition, tires can withstand explosions from charges weighing up to 10 kg of TNT. The protection of the bottom stops the blast wave of a charge weighing up to 8 kg of TNT.
Even the most modern serial BTR-82, like the Tigr-M armored car, cannot boast of such armor.
Typhoon-K has been produced since 2014, and in 2017 the number of these vehicles in the Russian army reached at least 260 units. It is not known how many Typhoons are in service today. The main thing is that they are where they are needed today.
