Temperature fluctuations can adversely affect the windshield. Expert “Behind the wheel” Mikhail Kolodochki told how to avoid this.
For example, you started the engine and went to clear the snow from the car. While fiddling, the engine warmed up a bit and warm air began to flow into the cabin. It would be a mistake to return to the car, turn the heater on full blast and direct all the airflow to the windshield. Due to a sharp local temperature drop, it can burst. And with a crack in the glass you will not pass the inspection and you will not register the car again.
The glass will need to be replaced. Depending on the car model and glass manufacturer, this can cost a tidy sum of up to 50 thousand rubles and even more.
Do not set the heater to maximum blowing speed to avoid problems. Adjust the system so that air is blown at a moderate rate at the windshield and immediately after the engine is started. So the temperature of the air supplied to the passenger compartment will gradually increase as the engine warms up. Then the transition from cold to heat will be smooth and comfortable for the glass.
