— Do gas stations have the right not to put fuel in a plastic jerry can?
— No they do not. According to clause 8.2.5 of GOST R 58404–2019 “Gas stations and complexes. Rules of technical operation “the release of oil products in containers made of polymeric materials is allowed “if it has a manufacturer’s mark on the possibility of using it for storing oil products” In other words, if your jerrycan is made of HDPE (high density polyethylene) and designed for gasoline, not water, then they have no right to refuse you.
In practice, however, I have repeatedly come across employees of the same Rosneft refer to some local orders and prohibited plastic. Unfortunately, in such situations there is only one way out – to visit a gas station of another brand.
