Caterpillar is now betting on electric mining trucks, which is no surprise. The company organized a focus group of its customers and, based on the input received, developed a huge dump truck with an index of 793 without a combustion engine. She then demonstrated what the truck is capable of at its proving ground in Arizona, USA.
The main characteristic of mining trucks is that these giants carry heavy loads over relatively short distances.
The first test of the electric 793 took place on a 7 km track. Fully loaded, the truck reached a maximum speed of 60 km/h and easily drove almost a kilometer uphill with a 10% gradient, but already at a speed of 12 km/h. During the descent, the brake energy recovery system was activated.
All these characteristics are comparable to those of the 793F, equipped with an 85 liter 16 cylinder diesel engine with approximately 2,500 hp.
