But what if you put the battery “more powerful”?

… whether, for example, you plan to get out of the swamp “with the starter”, experts from Za Rulem, the oldest and most authoritative automotive publication in Russia, explain Mikhail Kolodochkin and Alexei Revin.

What’s the problem?

With the advent of winter and frosts, motorists are thinking about whether to put a high-capacity battery in the car so that it has enough charge to start the engine in such harsh conditions.

But at the same time, they heard somewhere that a more “capacious” battery can burn the starter. None of that – Ohm’s law doesn’t depend on amp hours.

In which case will the starter suffer?

Regardless of the battery capacity, the voltage of the on-board network remains unchanged. This does not change the number of starting windings. So why would it burn? Should not. There is only one exception. But only the driver will be to blame.

We are talking about the same exit “on the starter” from the swamp, which is mentioned at the very beginning. If a less capacious battery, which turns the starter, and with it the motor with wheels, quickly sits down, then a larger battery will be able to run all these mechanisms much longer. As a result, the starter will simply overheat and burn out.

But this way of “driving” is used only by extreme athletes and only with the mind (without the mind – no more than once). This example has nothing to do with the normal operation of the car.
