Dutch startup Lightyear has launched the world’s first electric car that generates energy directly from sunlight.

A car with curved solar panels, which are located on the hood and roof of the car, can run without charging for two months in Amsterdam in the summer or seven months in Portugal, said Lex Hoofsloot, CEO and co-founder of the startup.

The energy from the sun increases the range of an electric car by 70 km every day. The cost of Lightyear is about $ 260,000 (about 15.8 million rubles).

Electric cars will be assembled at the Valmet factory in Finland, starting with one car per week. Production should be increased to five cars per week around the second half of next year.
