The frame is made of wood, but the shape of the body is streamlined. That was the bonnet bus ZIS-16, which appeared in the late 1930s. Compared to the cars of that time, it looked fast – thanks to the sloping windshield and the unusual shape of the radiator. In the cabin – soft seats, nickel-plated handrails, lowered windows and a heating system.
In the early 1940s, for obvious reasons, part of the buses were switched to gas fuel. A mobile trolley with a gas generator was attached to the rear of the bus, from which gas was supplied to the engine via a hose. Such installations worked both on peat and on blocks. The estimated consumption was 100 kg of blocks per 100 km.
Mikhail Kolodochkin has been collecting unusual facts from the history of technology for many years. Did you know, for example, that an all-terrain vehicle was designed at GAZ in the 1960s that can both fly and swim?
