LG Display has developed ultra-thin speakers that can be mounted anywhere in the car, even on the ceiling, even in the headrests.
The Exciter panels are 2.54 mm thick. The technology is called Thin Actuator Sound Solution and will replace traditional car speakers in 2023.
There are no conventional coils, diaphragms and magnets in the system. Instead, so-called film technology is used. According to the company’s engineers, the film transmits vibrations to the surfaces it is attached to, producing a “rich three-dimensional immersive sound” (immersion is associated with immersion).
Due to the small dimensions of the panels (15×9×0.25 cm) and the weight of 40 g, they can be hidden in most car interior parts: in the dashboard, headliner, pillars and headrests. According to LG, this frees up space “without sacrificing sound quality”.
LG will showcase the new technology at CES 2023 (an international consumer technology trade show to be held January 5-8 in Las Vegas, USA) in 2023.
