How many meters the cameras “see” the car: it all depends on the type of device

Typically, drivers hit the brake pedal and adjust their speed after seeing a warning sign about approaching a camera.

Such signs are installed 150-200 meters in front of the very complex of photo and video recording of traffic violations.

In this case, the range of the devices is different. Most cameras installed on Russian roads operate on the Doppler principle. They are equipped with a transmitter and a radar receiver. Depending on the type of lens, the camera can “see” 100-300 meters away.

More advanced Strelka complexes are installed on multi-lane roads. They can recognize the type of car at a distance of 250-300 meters, but a specific car camera only shoots at a distance of 50 meters.

Speedometers equipped with laser transmitters have a different principle of operation. They are equipped with traffic police squads. They can even ‘see’ the car over 500 metres, but the devices can link the speed to a specific car at a much shorter distance.
