In November, the number of cases of termination of already concluded OSAGO contracts at the initiative of the insurance company increased due to errors in the data of the insured or the car. Citizens write about such cases on the portals Banki.ru and Sravni.ru.
Customers complain that companies terminate contracts due to errors in vehicle capacity or vehicle registration (Vehicle) and do not refund the insurance premium. The insurer refuses the offer to correct the data.
So for the three quarters of 2022, the number of OSAGO contract terminations initiated by the UK due to incorrect data ranged from 150 thousand to 300 thousand cases. As a rule, policyholders falsely declare information about the area of predominant use of the vehicle, engine power and purpose of use of the car.
Position of insurers
Insurers themselves believe that they act within the law, because they have the right to terminate contracts unilaterally if incorrect information that is important for determining the degree of insurance risk comes out. Lawyers confirm that this practice is within the law.
Customers provide incorrect data, so that the insurer applies coefficients that lower the insurance premium, according to the Russian Union of Insurers. And if insurers are deprived of the right to cancel contracts unilaterally, there is no instrument to combat insurance fraud.

According to the Central Bank over the three quarters of this year, the number of complaints against insurers has increased by almost 30%, while CMTPL accounted for about 80% of the complaints.
