Reason 1. The battery can boil
A charger is connected to the battery terminals, which regulates the power supply. But if the battery is old, the charging process may be interrupted.
The charger may be supplying too much current. As a result, not all energy goes into the battery charge. There is an electrolysis reaction of water. The electrolyte releases hydrogen and oxygen bubbles that build up in the housing. In this case, they say that the battery boiled. To prevent this, the charging current must be reduced.
Reason 2. Ignition by a spark
Over time, the battery breaks down. In it, chemical reactions take place, which form a precipitate on the terminals. The released hydrogen, mixed with air, forms an explosive gas. A small spark – and you will have neither a battery nor an apartment.
Reason 3. The fire hazard of the battery itself
When explosive gas is released from the battery in the middle of the apartment, the car owner can walk around with a cigarette carefree. gas can explode both indoors and in the charger. Sulfuric acid is spreading everywhere.
An explosion can be caused by the movement of the battery during charging and static voltage of the hands.
Therefore, if the battery has a strong oxide layer, it is better to buy a new one so as not to risk it. And charging in the garage. In addition, a fire extinguisher should always be available. And, of course, don’t leave the charging unattended overnight.
