Railroad crossings are among the most dangerous and devastating. The Russian railway company published statistics on such accidents for the first quarter of this year in its Telegram channel. According to these data, in the first three months of 2022, the number of road accidents at intersections decreased significantly – by 32% compared to the same period last year.
Namely, during 3 months in Russia 54 traffic accidents occurred on the railway, in which 35 people were injured and five died.
The Russian Railways lists two main causes of accidents at intersections:
- violation of traffic rules – drivers leave on the way to a prohibition signal;
- a car that broke down on the road.
The company is calling on drivers to strictly follow the rules when driving over level crossings.
It is necessary to be guided by the requirements of road signs, traffic lights, markings, the position of the barrier and the instructions of the officer on duty. You also have to be sure of the technical usability of the car. Before going to the crossing, make sure no train is approaching.
