Photos of the new hardcore BYD model, which are already being tested on public roads, have surfaced on the network.
BYD is known to specialize in electric vehicles, but this SUV will get an internal combustion engine as part of a hybrid power plant. Consequently, the car will be suitable for long journeys away from the roads and civilization.
The design of the car is classic off-road, with lots of vertical lines, a straight roof suitable for an expedition box and large wheel arches.
The front optic will be multi-level, and the radiator grille will be very large so that the engine does not overheat when driving at low speeds, but under heavy load.
Attached to the tailgate is an octagonal trunk with a spare wheel, and judging by the handle on the right, the door swings open to the left. The car also has a very small rear overhang.
By all indications, this will be a real SUV. Consequently, the car will have a four-wheel drive system with locks for at least two differentials (rear and center), a transfer case, and so on.
It will be a cheap replacement for European and American SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender.
