Indian automakers want to expand their presence in the Russian market, and now they are assessing the situation, said Manpreet Singh Nagi, president of the Indian Chamber of International Business.

“They are now studying the market. For example, Mahindra (Mahindra Group) – they are already on the market in the region with tractors and other agricultural equipment, so they are already trading with Russia and neighboring countries,” he told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Made in Russia forum.

There are such opportunities, the matter is now being discussed, but when this could happen is hard to say now, he added.

The automotive industry in India is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. The production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the country is the sixth largest in the world. It has its own production of cars, which is represented by brands: Chinkara engines, Hindustan engines, ICM, Mahindra, Prime Minister cars Limited, San engines and Tata engines.

Two brands are best known in Russia: Mahindra and Tata Motors. Not all models are known, but in the meantime, in addition to commercial vehicles, only the Mahindra brand has 8 crossovers in the line and 16 passenger car models of various types in the Tata line.

Moreover, foreign car manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Fiat, Ford, GM, Honda, Land Rover, Hyundai, Nissan, Mitsubihi, Toyota, VW, etc. assemble cars in the country.
