Men break traffic rules much more often than women, the German Federal Road Transport Service said after evaluating the statistics for 2020. Overall, the ratio was almost 87% of the violations. up to 13% committed by women.

At the same time, the proportion of women with a driver’s license in the country today is 42.6% (almost half). Therefore, the data collected can be considered significant.

Male drivers are responsible for 78% of all speeding violations, 88% are responsible for not complying with the rules when overtaking, among the road distance offenders there is also 82% of men. 68% of the offences, such as running a red light, are also committed by men.

And when it comes to banned mobile phone use while driving, men also clearly outperform women: about 74% versus 26%.

Don’t jump to conclusions

So what should we conclude from this: Do men drive worse, or should they be seen as more risk averse and more aggressive in traffic?

A 2020 study into the causes of aggressive driving by the German Institute for Accident Research found that this only points to a different perception of the environment by men.

Men often explain and justify their violations by supposedly unreasonable obstacles from other road users or by illogical restrictions imposed by the rules, or by incorrect organization of traffic in a particular place. Only a few are willing to immediately admit their guilt.
