Our author Alexei Revin’s advice is to protect a relatively inexpensive car, so it doesn’t require any serious investment. Of the five methods described, we chose one – an additional connector for the standard OBD (diagnostic connector, which is located near the steering wheel).
Suppose an attacker has already got into your car, but he does not have a key, as well as an electronic head – a counterpart to a standard immobilizer.
OBD connector with adapter block.
He neutralizes the immobilizer, most likely, with the so-called winder. The device replaces the ignition key code or puts the engine control unit in emergency mode, where the on-board electronics do not require a “password”. The thief’s device is connected to the OBD connector.
This means that you have to remove the connector, that is, an additional “father-mother” connector of a completely arbitrary configuration, for example a computer or a car radio, must be installed in the open circuit of the standard OBD .
The location of the contacts is known only to you, and when you plug in the “adapter” with a standard OBD connector, all the output signals will be in the right places. We leave the “adapter” at home or hide it in the car. It is only needed for scheduled maintenance so that the dealer can diagnose the system with a scanner.
