Deputy head of the Ministry of Transport Alexander Sukhanov will resign after the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, RBC writes, citing several sources of its own. The timing of the resignation is still unclear. Ministry representatives did not comment on the situation.
Alexander Sukhanov took up the post of deputy minister in July 2020 and before that he worked for Rosaviatsia as a deputy head for seven years. At the Ministry of Transport, Sukhanov oversees the safety issues of transport and the activities of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Service for Departmental Security (UVO) of the Ministry of Transport. This enterprise was the executor of work on the transport security of the Crimean Bridge.
In 2018, the total cost of contracts to ensure the safety of the bridge exceeded 12 billion rubles; Contract end dates are constantly shifting. In April 2022, an additional contract was signed with the UVO of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management for retrofitting the bridge with transport security equipment – for 617 million rubles.
After the explosion on the bridge on October 8, powers to protect the bridge were transferred to the FSB.
