Moscow plans to launch the Moskvich plant in December and could become a center for electric vehicle construction in the future, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
Today the mayor took part in the international export forum Made in Russia 2022.
Before the start of the plenary session, Mikhail Mishustin, the mayor of the capital and prime minister of the Russian Federation, toured the exposition of the forum, one of the central elements of which is the “Made in Moscow” booth.
“Motor transport has failed miserably this year, but nevertheless I hope that with the help of the Ministry of Industry we will launch the Moskvich plant again in December,” Sobyanin said during a conversation with Mishustin.
He noted that Moskvich should soon become a center for the creation of electric vehicles, and all the competences are there for that.
About the plant “Moskvich”
French company Renault announced in the spring that it would close the Moscow car factory it had owned since 1998 and exit the Russian market. The factory became the property of the Moscow government and was immediately renamed the Moscow Automobile Plant “Moskvich”.
At the first stage, the company assumes SKD assembly of two types of cars – with combustion engines and all-electric. Components are imported from friendly countries of different manufacturers.
