A month ago, Mitsubishi put its badge on the Renault Captur and announced a “new” ASX for the European market. But for the home market and Southeast Asia, the company has kept something more interesting.
This is the XFC crossover, which is still being presented as a concept, but should go on sale next year. When presented in Saigon, it was called “the most suitable friend for an exciting life” with a “silky and solid” design.
The car has a Mitsubishi brand design, unlike the new ASX with French DNA. It got L-shaped LED headlights, with daytime running lights in the form of blinds underneath. The taillights have a similar design. There are no rear-view mirrors. Instead, there are cameras.
Two monitors are installed in the cabin, which form one surface. But the climate control system has a separate touch control panel. In addition, there is a “floating” gearbox selector and a “Stop / Start” start button. The three-spoke steering wheel also has touch buttons.
The XFC concept has a completely flat floor and a spacious interior that can accommodate five people, including the driver. Those sitting in the back seats have access to climate control, and behind that was plenty of room for a roomy trunk.
Specifications have not yet been announced. But the creators of the crossover still talked about one chip. It is the first Mitsubishi vehicle with a wet driving mode that “ensures safe driving even on roads flooded with water by sudden rainfall”. There are also Normal, Grind and Mud modes.
The production model, of course, loses rear-view cameras, touch buttons and gets smaller wheels. They plan to sell it in Southeast Asia countries from 2023, but if the demand for the crossover is high, the company will take it to other markets.
This is no longer a Renault Captur with the Mitsubishi logo, but a crossover of its own design.
